Post-Italian Election Report

Post Italian Election Report,
by Pietro, SMPBI International Liaison Officer

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT THE NEW ITALIAN GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO DO.

THE CENTRE-RIGHT COALITION GOT 37% OF THE VOTE.

THE LEGA IS ACTUALLY LEADING THE COALITION WITH 18% WHILE BERLUSCONI'S FORWARD ITALY PARTY GOT 14%.

IMAGINE IF UKIP OR THE NEW PARTY FOR BRITAIN LED BY ANNE MARIE WATERS (A SPLINTER OF UKIP AFTER SHE CAME SECOND IN LAST YEAR'S LEADERSHIP CONTEST AGAINST AN ABSOLUTE MORON WHICH CALLED HER AND ALL HER SUPPORTERS "NAZIS") GOT MORE VOTES THAN THE TORIES.

NOT A BAD THING AFTER ALL AT LEAST AS A NEW PARTY VS AN OLD ONE. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T EXPECT THAT THE CIVIC NATIONALISTS ARE THE SOLUTION OF ALL THE PROBLEMS.

BROTHERS OF ITALY (ANOTHER UKIP TYPE PARTY) 4%. HOWEVER IS STILL PART OF THE COALITION. THEY MAY BE BETTER ON IMMIGRATION THAN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY (WHICH GOT ANNIHILATED WITH ONLY 19%OF THE VOTE) BUT AS THEY ARE SOFT EURO-SCEPTIC THE EU WILL MAKE LIFE HARDER FOR THEM UNTIL THEY WILL PUT ONE OF THEIR LOTS IN. BACK IN 2011.

THE EU FORCIBLY REMOVED BERLUSCONI AND PUT A TECHNOCRAT CALLED MARIO MONTI, A TECHNOCRAT WHICH WORKED FOR THE ECB AND GOLDMAN SACHS BY COINCIDENCE (THAT'S SARCASTIC); YES, RIGHT!

THE FIVE STARS MOVEMENT GOT 31% OF THE VOTE ALONE MAKING IT THE PARTY WITH THE LARGER SHARE OF THE VOTE. COULD IT MAKE A COALITION WITH THE LEGA? LOTS OF PEOPLE WISH THAT BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.

IN THE 2018 GENERAL ELECTIONS THE NORTH-SOUTH DIVIDE PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE. LEGA WAS PARTICULARLY STRONG IN THE MONTH WHILE THE FIVE STARS MOVEMENT WAS THE SAME IN THE SOUTH.

FIVE YEARS AGO IT WAS LED BY A COMEDIAN CALLED BEPPE GRILLO AND WAS A NEW ANTI ESTABLISHMENT FORCE. NOW HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT SO ANTI ESTABLISHMENT. THEY HAVE MAYORS IN TURIN AND ROME AND TURNED OUT NOT SO EFFICIENT.

AS I PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED THEY DO NOT HAVE A COHESIVE PROGRAM BUT ARE A PURE PROTEST PARTY.

BEPPE GRILLO RESIGNED AND GOT REPLACED BY LUIGI DI MAIO. WHO? THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. HE CAME FROM NOWHERE.

NOTE ONE THING MISSING: THE LEFT.
0% OF THE VOTE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. FROM THE LARGEST COMMUNIST PARTY IN THE WEST (EUROCOMMUNIST HOWEVER SO STILL NO GOOD) IN THE 1970S TO NOTHING. 20 SMALL COMMUNISTS PARTIES ALL ACCUSING EACH OTHER TO BE THE REAL DEAL AND ACCUSING EACH OTHER TO BE SELLOUTS IN AN EXTREMELY MONTH PYTHONESQUE MANNER.

I'M SAD TO ANNOUNCE THAT CASA POUND ITALIA DIDN'T DO AS GOOD AS I THOUGHT. I WAS NOT ILLUSIONED THAT THEY WOULD GET IN, HOWEVER I THOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE GOT 5% BUT UNFORTUNATELY GOT 0,9%. NEVERTHELESS THEY ARE STILL A FORCE AS I EXPLAINED PREVIOUSLY.

THEY HAD LITTLE AND NEGATIVE MEDIA COVERAGE AND THE LEGA WASTED NO TIME IN TAKING THE STAGE. ALSO, IN THE RADICAL NATIONALIST CAMP THEY HAD THE VOTE SPLIT BY FORZA NUOVA, A SMALLER RADICAL NATIONALIST AND THIRD POSITIONIST PARTY LED BY A MAN CALLED ROBERTO FIORE. HE LIVED IN LONDON FOR MANY YEARS AFTER BEING WRONGLY ACCUSED OF THE 1980 BOLOGNA RAILWAY STATION BOMBING DURING THE VIOLENT YEARS OF LEAD. HE WAS INVOLVED WITH THE OFFICIAL NATIONAL FRONT WHILST IN BRITAIN AND IS A CLOSE FRIEND OF NICK GRIFFIN (REMEMBER HIM?). THE TWO COOPERATE IN THE ALLIANCE OF PEACE AND FREEDOM AS WE SPEAK.

DON'T GET ME WRONG FORZA NUOVA HAS LOTS OF GOOD POLICIES HOWEVER IN THIS OCCASION THEY SPLIT THE VOTE.

HOWEVER, IF CASA POUND ITALIA KEEP THEIR GOOD WORK AND PRINCIPLES HIGH THEY COULD GROW INTO SOMETHING. THEY COULD WILL BE AROUND WHEN LEGA, BROTHERS OF ITALY AND FIVE STARS MOVEMENT WILL GET COMPROMISED.

LOCAL ELECTIONS ARE DEFINITELY BETTER THAN GENERAL ELECTIONS.

IN LUCCA (A TOWN IN TUSCANY) THEY GOT 10% OF THE VOTE AND IN OSTIA (NEAR ROME) 20% LAST YEAR'S LOCAL ELECTIONS. SIMONE DI STEFANO, THE MAN OF THE POLITICAL BROADCAST IS A GOOD LEADER. THEY DEFINITELY HAVE A POTENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE.
